1. Which of the drawings (a) to (d) show:

Solution:

(i) 2 × 1/5 represent the addition of two figures, in which 1 shaded part out of the 5 equal parts of the figure.

Hence, it represents drawing (d)

(ii) 2 × 1/2 represent the addition of two figures, in which 1 shaded part out of the 2 equal parts of the figure.

Hence, it represents drawing (b)

(iii) 3 × 2/3 represent the addition of 3 figures, in which 2 shaded parts out of the 3 equal parts of the figure.

Hence, it represents drawing (a)

(iv) 3 × 1/4 represent the addition of 3 figures, in which 1 shaded part out of the 4 equal parts of the figure.

Hence, it represents drawing (c)
