पुराने समय में मगध देश में फुल्लोत्पल नाम का एक तालाब था | उस तालाब में दो हंस रहते थे, एक का नाम था संकट और दूसरे का नाम था विकट | उन दोनों हंसो के साथ एक कछुआ भी रहता था जिसका नाम था ,कंबुग्रीव |

तीनों मित्र बड़े ही आराम की जिंदगी जी रहे थे | कुछ दिन बाद कुछ मछुआरे उस तालाब पर आए | वे कहने -“हम लोग कल मछलियों और कछुए आदि को मारेंगे”|

यह सुनकर कछुआ दोनों हंसो से बोला -“मित्रों क्या तुम दोनों ने मछुआरों की बात सुनी है ? अब मैं क्या करूं ? तुम दोनों तो उड़ कर चले जाओगे और मैं यहां फंस गया” | दोनों हंस कहने लगे-” सुबह में जो उचित होगा वह करेंगे”| तभी कछुआ बोला – “नहीं ऐसा मत करो, मुझे बचाओ, ऐसा उपाय करो जिस प्रकार मैं दूसरी तालाब में चला जाऊं” | दोनों हंस कहने लगे- “अब इसमें हम दोनों क्या कर सकते हैं “?

कछुआ एक उपाय निकाला और बोला – “मैं तुम दोनों के साथ आकाश मार्ग से दूसरे स्थान पर जाने की इच्छा करता हूं” | दोनों हंस आश्चर्य के साथ बोले- ” लेकिन, यह कैसे संभव है ?” तब कछुआ बोला – ” तुम दोनों एक लकड़ी के टुकड़े को अपने चोच में पकड़ लेना, मैं उस लकड़ी के टुकड़े के मध्य भाग को अपने मुंह से पकड़ लूंगा और तुम दोनों उस डंडे को दोनों ओर से पकड़ कर उड़ जाना | और इस प्रकार हम सभी दूसरे तालाब में चले जाएंगे | “

फिर दोनों हंस बोलते हैं- यह उपाय तो ठीक लग रहा है परंतु यहां पर एक खतरा भी है| हमारे द्वारा ले जाए जाते हुए तुम्हें देखकर लोग तो कुछ जरूर कहेंगे यदि तुम उनकी बातों का उत्तर देते हो तो तुम्हारी मृत्यु निश्चित है | क्योंकि तुम्हारा मुंह खुल जाएगा और तुम नीचे गिर जाओगे और उनके द्वारा मार कर खा लिए जाओगे | फिर कछुआ बोलता है – तुम्हें मैं पागल दिखता हूं क्या ? मैं ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं करूंगा | मैं उत्तर बिल्कुल भी नहीं दूंगा | कुछ भी नहीं बोलूंगा | प्लीज मुझे लेकर चलो नहीं तो मछुआरे मुझे मार डालेंगे | इसलिए मैं जैसा बोलता हूं वैसा करो |

फिर दोनों हंस लकड़ी के डंडे को दोनों तरफ से पकड़कर उड़ जाते हैं और बीच में कछुआ लकड़ी को पकड़े हुए था | इस प्रकार तीनों उड़ते हुए आकाश मार्ग से जा रहे थे | रास्ते में लोगों ने देखा और उनके पीछे दौड़ने लगे | उनके पीछे दौड़ते हुए बोले -“अरे महान आश्चर्य है | दोस्तों के साथ एक कछुआ भी उड़ रहा है ” ! कोई कहने लगा- ” यदि या कछुआ किसी प्रकार नीचे गिर जाता है तो यहां पर ही पकाकर खा लूंगा | फिर दूसरा आदमी बोला – ” तालाब के किनारे जलाकर के पकाकर खाऊंगा ” | फिर कोई तीसरा बोलने लगा- ” घर ले जाकर खाऊंगा” |

इस बात पर कछुआ को गुस्सा आ गया और उसने आव देखा ना ताव और फटाक से बोल दिया ” तुम सब राख खा लो “| बस क्या था , उसी पल ही कछुआ के मुंह लकड़ी का डंडा छूट गया और वह नीचे पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा | ग्वालों ने यानी कि लोगों ने उस कछुए को मार डाला और उसे पकाकर खा लिया |

इसलिए कहा गया है – भलाई चाहने वाले मित्रों के वचन को जो प्रसन्नतापूर्वक स्वीकार नहीं करता है, वह लकड़ी से गिरे हुए दुष्ट बुद्धि कछुए के समान नष्ट हो जाता है |

तो इस कहानी से यह शिक्षा मिलती है कि हमें सही समय देखकर ही कुछ बोलना चाहिए | मूर्खों की तरह ज्यादा नहीं बोलना चाहिए |

Both of you will fly away and I get stuck here.” Both swans started saying- “Whatever will be right in the morning.” Then the tortoise said – “Do not do it, save me, do the same way that I can go to another lake.” Both swans started saying, “Now what can we both do?”

Turtle took a remedy and said – “I wish to go from sky to second place with you both.” Both swans said with surprise- “But, how is this possible?” Then the tortoise said – “Both of you take a piece of wood in your beak, I will grab the middle part of that piece of wood with your mouth and both of you hold that stove from both sides, and thus we all will go to the other pond. “

Then both swans speak – this remedy sounds fine but there is a danger here too. People will say something by looking at us while you are taking them. If you answer their talk, then your death is certain. Because your mouth will open, and you will fall and be killed and eaten by them. Then the tortoise speaks—do you see me mad? I will not do anything like that. I will not answer at all. I will not say anything. Please come with me; otherwise, the fishermen will kill me. So do as I speak.

Then both the swans catch the wooden sticks from both sides, and in the middle, the turtle was holding the wood. Thus, the three were flying by flying sky. On the way, people looked and started running behind them. While running behind them, he said, “Hey, great surprise! A turtle is flying with friends!” Someone began to say, “If the turtle falls somehow, then I will cook it here, and the other person says,” I will cook by eating on the banks of the lake. ” Then someone started saying,” I will take home and eat. “

Turtle got angry at this point, and he did not see any tear and cracking. “U all eat the ashes.” What was just that, at the same moment, the turtle’s mouth was cut off by a wooden stick, and it fell on the earth. Cowherds, that is, the people killed that turtle and cooked it and ate it.

That is why it has been said that, who does not accept the word of friends who want goodness, it is destroyed like a wicked withered turtle fallen from the wood.

So, this story gets this education that we should say something only after looking at the right time. Should not speak more like fools.
