English Translation: The text presented is compiled from ‘Kakolukeeyam’, the third section of the famous Sanskrit scripture ‘Panchatantram’. The original author of Panchatantra is Vishnusharma. There are five sections in it, which is called ‘Tantra’. There are stories in prose-verse form, whose characters are mainly animals and birds.
English Translation: A lion named Kharankhar lived in a forest. Once he was restless with hunger and he didn’t get any food while wandering around. While the sun was setting, he thought of seeing a huge cave -Surely, someone visits this cave at night. So I am sitting here secretly.
English Translation: Meanwhile, the jackal named Dadhipuch came to the cave. He sees the lion’s claw marks appear as he enters the cave, and the claw marks do not appear to come out in that manner. Jackal thought- “Oh shit, I died. There is definitely a lion in this cave. So, what should I do?” He considers something. He began shouting while standing back. Hey Cave! Hey Cave! Don’t you remember that I promised you that whenever I return from outside, you will call me? If you don’t call me, I will move to another cave.
English Translation: After hearing this, the lion thought, “Of course, this cave must have always called its owner.” But today, because of my fear, the cave is saying nothing. Or rightly said –
English Translation: The hands, feet, and speech of frightened people do not work properly. And their body also vibrates more.
English Translation: So, I will invite him. Thus, he will enter into the cave and become my food. In this manner, the lion unexpectedly invites the jackal. The high roar of the lion echoed. The jackal was thus loudly summoned by that cave. As a result, other animals also became frightened. Jackal also ran away from him and started reading the Shloka-
English Translation: One who takes measures to solve the future misery, will happy. And one who does not take measures to solve the future misery is grieved. My old age arrived while I was living here in the forest, but I never heard Cave’s voice.
