Mirdu is a young girl living with her Tapi (grandmother) and Thatha (grandfather) in Madras. She went to her aunt Rukku Manni’s house along with Tapi to meet her cousins Lalli, Ravi, and Meena. As she reached Rukku Manni’s house, Ravi pulled Mridu into the house to which she protested. Mirdu took off her slippers and set them near a pair of large black ones. Ravi dragged her to the backyard, behind a thick bitter-berry bush. There was a small kitten inside a torn football who was busy drinking milk from a coconut half-shell.
Ravi explains how he found the poor kitten and how hard it is to get a little milk from the kitchen. Ravi named the kitten Mahendravarma Pallava Poonai, M.P. Poonai in short. He further continues how the kitten is a descendent of Mahabalipuram Rishi-Cat! who was descended of Egyptian cat-god!😀 As he keeps talking about the kitten, they were distracted by a ‘kreeching’ sound and the frightened kitten ran to hide. Ravi tells Mridu that his sister Lalli is learning to play the violin which she will never learn.😥😃 Mirdu crept up to the window and saw Lalli sitting in an awkward position holding her violin and the music-master facing his back to the window who had a mostly bald head with a fringe of oiled black hair, a gold chain around his neck, and a diamond ring.
A beggar showed up there who was also a regular visitor to Rukku Manni’s house. Rukku Manni got fed up and asked him not to come again. The beggar showed the children his large, pink, peeling blister on the soles of his feet. 😥😥😥 Mridu suggests Meena and Ravi search for an old pair of chappals in the house. While searching for the chappals, Mirdu once again notices that old pair of black chappals. She asks Ravi about the belonging of that chappal to which he was not aware. Ravi picks them up and gives them to the beggar. The beggar, pleased with the chappals blesses the children and leaves.
After a while, the music master came out and found his chappals missing.😃😃😊 He called Lalli and informed her about the missing chappals, both searched the chappals all around the house. Soon Lalli informs her mother about the missing chappals and it was confirmed that the children gave the music master’s chappal to the beggar.✌️ Rukku Manni gave Gopu Mama’s hardly worn chappals to the music master, he accepts them and leaves. After the music-master leaves, Rukku Manni takes Mirdu to the kitchen for the tiffin. Rukku Manni’s anger got vanished with her laugh, thinking what Gopu Mama would say on knowing that she gave his chappals to the music master.😊😊😃😀
