(i) Why are resources distributed unequally over the earth?
Answer: Earth has different topography, climate, terrain, and altitude at different places. The differences in these factors have resulted in unequal distribution of resources over the earth.
(ii) What is resource conservation?
Answer: Resource conservation is the careful use of resources and giving them time to get renewed. It is the protection and ethical use of valuable resources such as minerals, water, trees, wildlife, and others.
(iii) Why are human resources important?
Answer: Human beings are the most important resources because resources are created by human efforts. They can make the best use of nature to create more resources with the help of their knowledge and, skill and technology. Education and health help in making humans a valuable resource. The economic development of a country or region depends not just on the availability of natural resources but to a great extent on its human resources.
(iv) What is sustainable development?
Answer: The economic development that takes place without damaging the environment or depletion of natural resources is known as sustainable development. The future of our planet and its people linked with our ability to maintain and preserve the life support system that nature provides. Sustainable development is when all renewable resources are used sustainably, the diversity of life on the earth is conserved and the damage to the natural environmental system is minimized and saved for our future generations. Every individual can contribute towards conserving resources by taking three important steps- reducing consumption, recycling, and reusing things.
