उद्यमेन हि सिध्यन्ति कार्याणि न मनोरथै : ।
न हि सुप्तस्य सिंहस्य प्रविशन्ति मुखे मृगाः ।।1।।
सरलार्थ: कार्य परिश्रम से ही सिद्ध होते हैं, इक्षाओं से नहीं। (जैसे) सोते हुए शेर के मुँह में मृग (खुद) ही प्रवेश नहीं करता है।

English Translation: Work is demonstrated by hard work, not by desires. A deer does not enter the sleeping lion’s mouth on its own.

पुस्तके पठित: पाठ: जीवने नैव साधित: ।
किं भवेत् तेन पाठेन जीवने यो न सार्थक: ॥2॥

सरलार्थ: (यदि), पुस्तक में पढ़ा गया पाठ जीवन में नहीं उतारा गया (तो) उन पाठों से क्या फ़ायदा? अगर जीवन में बेकार की चीजे ही करते रहें?

English Translation: What is the point of reading a book if the lesson is not brought to life? If only you keep doing stupid things in life?

प्रियवाक्यप्रदानेन सर्वे तुष्यन्ति जन्तवः।
तस्मात् प्रियं हि वक्तव्यं वचने का दरिद्रता ॥3॥
सरलार्थ: प्रिय (अच्छा) वचन बोलने से सभी मनुष्य खुश होते हैं। इसलिए, प्रिय ही बोलना चाहिए।🤷‍♂️ (प्रिय) बोलने में कंजूसी क्यों?🤦‍♂️

English Translation: All human beings are happy by speaking sweet words. Therefore, one should speak sweetly. Why skimp on speaking sweetly?

गच्छन् पिपीलको याति योजनानां शतान्यपि।
अगच्छन् वैनतेयोऽपि पदमेकं न गच्छति ।।4।।
सरलार्थ: जाती हुई/चलती हुई चींटी योजन (4 कोस) पार कर लेती है लेकिन रुका हुआ गरुड़ एक कदम भी नहीं जाता है।

English Translation: The moving ant crosses 12 kilometers but the stalled Eagle does not move even one step.

मतलब, चींटी जो कितनी छोटी और धीरे-धीरे चलती है; वो भी अगर लगातार चलती है तो 12 किलोमीटर चल जाती है। वही दूसरी तरफ, गरुड़ पक्षी जो बहुत तेज़ उड़ता है, अगर चाहे तो 8० किलोमीटर 1 घंटा में चला जाये परन्तु, रुक जाए तो एक कदम भी आगे नहीं जा पाएगा।

Means, If you can’t fly, run; if you can’t run, walk, if u can’t walk, crawl. BUT NEVER STOP.

काक: कृष्णः पिक: कृष्णः को भेद: पिककाकयो:।
वसन्तसमये प्राप्ते काकः काकः पिक: पिक: ॥5॥

सरलार्थ: कौआ काला (है), कोयल काली (है), (फिर) कौआ (और) कोयल में क्या अंतर है? वसन्त समय आने पर, कौआ, कौआ (है); और कोयल, कोयल (है)।

English Translation: What is the difference between a crow and a cuckoo if the crow and the cuckoo are both black? When spring arrives, the crow remains the crow, and the cuckoo is cuckoo.

Note : मतलब कोयल और कौआ का अंतर वसंत ऋतु में ही दिखता है, जब कोयल वसंत में प्यारी-प्यारी कूक निकलती है- “कुहू-कुहू……।
