भ्रान्तो बालः
व्याकुल लड़का
प्रस्तुतोऽयं पाठ: “संस्कृत-प्रौढपाठावलिः” इति कथाग्रन्थात् सम्पादनं कृत्वा सङ्गृहीतोऽस्त। अस्यां कथायाम् एकः तादृशः बाल: चित्रितोऽस्ति, यस्य रुचि: स्वाध्यायापेक्षया क्रीडने अधिका भवति। सः सर्वदा क्रीडनार्थमेव अभिलषति परञ्च तस्य सखायः स्वस्व-कर्मणि संलग्ना: भवन्ति। अस्मात् कारणात् ते अनेन सह न क्रीडन्ति। अतः एकाकी सः नैराश्यं प्राप्य विचिन्तयति यत् स एव रिक्त: सन् इतस्तत: भ्रमति। कालान्तरे बोधो भवति यत् सर्वेऽपि स्व-स्वकार्यं कुर्वन्तः सन्ति अतो मयापि तदेव कर्तव्यं येन मम कालः सार्थक: स्यात्।
सरलार्थ: – प्रस्तुत पाठ “संस्कृत-प्रौढपाठावलि” कथाग्रन्थ से सम्पादन करके सङ्गृहीत किया गया है। इस कथा में एक ऐसे लड़के का चित्रण है, जिसकी रुचि स्वाध्याय की अपेक्षा खेल में अधिक होती है। वह हमेशा खेलने के लिए सोचता रहता है (लेकिन) उसके दोस्त अपने-अपने काम में लगे रहते हैं (और इसको) टालते रहते हैं। इस कारण से वे लोग इसके साथ नहीं खेलते हैं। इसलिए, अकेला वह निराशा प्राप्त करके सोचता है कि वह ही खाली इधर-उधर घूमता है। समय के साथ (उसको भी) ज्ञान हो जाता है कि सभी अपने अपने कार्य कर रहे हैं, इसलिए मुझे भी अपना कर्तव्य करना चाहिए जिससे कि मेरा समय सार्थक हो (बर्बाद न हो)।
English Translation: The following text was edited and compiled from the “Sanskrit-Praudh-Pathavali” storybook. This story is about a boy who is more interested in sports than in self-study. He is constantly thinking about playing, but his friends are always busy with their work and keep putting him off. That’s why they don’t let him play with them. As a result, he alone believes, in despair, that he is the only one who wanders around aimlessly. With the passage of time, he realizes that everyone else is doing his work, so he should also do his duty so that his time is well spent (not wasted).
भ्रान्तः कश्चन बालः पाठशालागमनवेलायां क्रीडितम् अगच्छत्। किन्तु तेन सह केलिभि: कालं क्षेप्तुं तदा कोऽपि न वयस्येषु उपलभ्यमान आसीत् । यतः ते सर्वेऽपि पूर्वदिनपाठान् स्मृत्वा विद्यालयगमनाय त्वरमाणाः अभवन्। तन्द्रालुः बालः लज्जया तेषां दृष्टिपथमपि परिहरनु एकाकी किमपि उद्यानं प्राविशत्।
सरलार्थ: – कोई भ्रमित(confused) लड़का विद्यालय जाने के वक्त खेलने के लिए निकला। लेकिन उसके साथ खेल द्वारा समय बिताने के लिए दोस्तों में कोई भी उपलब्ध नहीं था। क्यूँकि वे सब पहले दिन के पाठ को याद करके विद्यालय जाने के लिए जल्दी कर रहे थे। अलसी लड़का लज्जा से उनसे दृष्टि बचाता हुआ अकेले ही कोई उद्यान (बाग) में प्रवेश करता है।
English Translation: A confused boy went out to play on his way to school. However, none of his friends were available to spend time with him in sports. Because they were all in a rush to get to school after remembering the first day’s lesson. In shame, the linseed boy enters the park alone, shielding his eyes from them.
स: अचिन्तयत् – “विरमन्तु एते वराका: पुस्तकदासा:। अहं तु आत्मानं विनोदयिष्यामि। सम्प्रति विद्यालयं गत्वा भूयः क्रुद्धस्य उपाध्यायस्य मुखं द्रष्टुं नैव इच्छामि। एते निष्कुटवासिन: प्राणिन एव मम वयस्या: सन्तु इति।
सरलार्थ: – वह सोचा – “रोको इन किताबी कीड़ों को। मैं तो अपना मनोरंजन करूँगा। अब विद्यालय जाकर फिर क्रोधित गुरु का मुँह देखने के लिए ईक्षा नहीं करता हूँ। ये पेड़ के कोटर में रहने वाले प्राणी ही मेरे दोस्त हैं।
English Translation: He thought – “Stop these bookworms. I will entertain myself. Now I don’t want to go to school and see the angry teacher’s face again. These creatures living in the trunk of the tree are my friends.
अथ सः पुष्पोद्यानं व्रजन्तं मधुकरं दृष्ट्वा तं क्रीडितुम् द्वित्रिवारं आह्वयत् । तथापि स: मधुकरः अस्य बालस्य आह्वानं तिरस्कृतवान्। ततो भूयो भूय: हठमाचरति बाले सः मधुकरः अगायत् -“वयं हि मधुसंग्रहव्यग्रा ” इति।
सरलार्थ: – फिर वह फूल के बग़ीचे में जाते हुए भौंरे को देखकर उसको खेलने के लिए दो-तीन बार बोला। फिर भी वह भौंरा इस बालक का आह्वाहन को तिरस्कार किया। उसके बाद बार-बार बालक के द्वारा हठ करने पर वह भौंरा गाया (बोला) हमलोग फूलों के रस को जुटाने में लगे हैं। (So, we don’t have enough time to play with you. So sorry. You should go anywhere else to play.)
English Translation: Then he went to the flower garden and, seeing the bumblebees, told them two or three times that he wanted them to play with him. The bumblebee, however, despised the child’s call. Following that, the bumblebee sang (said) on the boy’s repeated insistence, “We are busy collecting flower juice.” (So, we don’t have enough time to play with you. So sorry. You should go anywhere else to play.)
तदा स बालः ‘अलं भाषणेन अनेन मिथ्यागर्वितेन कीटेन’ इति विचिन्त्य अन्यत्र दत्तदृष्टिः चञ्च्चा तृणशलाकादिकम् आददानम् एकं चटकम् अपश्यत्, अवदत् च- ” अयि चटकपोत! मानुषस्य मम मित्रं भविष्यसि । एहि क्रीडावः। एतत् शुष्कं तृणं त्यज स्वादूनि भक्ष्यकवलानि ते दास्यामि” इति। स तु ” मया वटदुमस्य शाखायां नीडं कार्यम्” इत्युक्त्वा स्वकर्मव्यग्रो: अभवत्।
सरलार्थ: – तब वह बालक ‘भाषण मत दो इस तरह, झूठे गर्व वाले कीड़े (घमंडी कीड़े) ऐसा सोचकर दूसरे को देखते हुए चोंच के द्वारा घास की शलाका आदि को प्राप्त करते हुए एक चिड़िया को देखा और बोला, “अरे चिड़िया! मनुष्य का, मेरी मित्र बनोगी? आओ खेलते हैं। यह सूखे घास को छोड़कर स्वादिष्ट खाने के लिए अच्छा भोजन तुम्हें दूँगा”। वह तो मेरे द्वारा बरगद के पेड़ की शाखा में घोंसला के काम में व्यस्त हूँ” ऐसा कहकर (वह) अपने काम में लग गई।
English Translation: “Don’t give a speech like this, false arrogant worm,” the child thought. Thinking along these lines, he noticed a bird catching grass sticks with her beak while staring at the other creature. Hello, are you looking for a friend like me? Let’s have some fun. I will give you delicious food, so leave this dry grass. “Actually I am busy with nesting in the branch of the banyan tree”, saying that the bird again got busy in her work.
तदा खिन्नो बालक: एते पक्षिणो मानुषेषु नोपगच्छन्ति। तद् अन्वेषयामि अपरं मानुषोचितम् विनोदयितारम् इति विचिन्त्य पलायमानं कमपि श्वानम् अवलोकयत्। प्रीतो बाल: तम् इत्थं समबोधयत् – रे मानुषाणां मित्र! किं पर्यटसि अस्मिन् निदाघदिवसे? इदं प्रच्छायशीतलं तरुमूलम् आश्रयस्व। अहमपि क्रीडासहायं त्वामेवानुरूपं पश्यामीति। कुक्कुरः प्रत्यवदत्-
सरलार्थ: – तब दुखी बालक (सोचा) ये चिड़ियाँ मनुष्यों के पास नहीं आते हैं। तब खोजता हूँ दूसरे मनुष्य के लिए उचित मनोरंजन करने वाले को ऐसा सोचकर भागते हुए (जाते हुए) किसी कुत्ते को देखा। खुश बालक उसको इस तरह बोला- हे मनुष्यों के दोस्त! क्यों घूमते हो इस गर्मी के दिन में? यह घनी-शीतल छाँव (छाया) (वाली) पेड़ के नीचे आश्रय लो। मैं भी साथ खेलने वाले के रूप में तुमको देखता हूँ। (फिर) कुत्ते ने उत्तर दिया-
English Translation: Then the sad child thought that these birds do not approach humans. “Then I look for someone else who can do proper entertainment for man,” the boy thought as he noticed a dog walking. The happy boy said to him like this – O friend of men! Why do you roam on this hot summer day? Take shelter under a tree with this dense-cool shade. I’ll play with you too. Then the dog replied –
यो मां पुत्रप्रीत्या पोषयति स्वामिनो गृहे तस्य।
रक्षानियोगकरणान्न मया भ्रष्टव्यमीषदपि।। इति।
अन्वय: – यो स्वामिनो मां पुत्रप्रीत्या पोषयति तस्य गृहे रक्षानियोगकरणात् मया ईषद अपि न भ्रष्टव्यम्।
सरलार्थ: – जो मालिक मुझको बेटे के तरह पलता है उसके घर पर सुरक्षा कार्य में लगे होने से मेरे द्वारा थोड़ा भी नहीं हटना चाहिए।
English Translation: I should not be a bit deterred from being engaged in security work at the house of the owner where he treats me as if I were a son.
सर्वै: एवं निषिद्ध: स बालो भग्नमनोरथः सन्-‘कथमस्मिन् जगति प्रत्येकं स्व-स्वकार्ये निमग्नो भवति। न कोऽपि मामिव वृथा कालक्षेपं सहते। नम एतेभ्य: यैः मे तन्द्रालुतायां कुत्सा समापादिता। अथ स्वोचितम् अहमपि करोमि इति विचार्य त्वरितं पाठशालाम् अगच्छत्। ततः प्रभृति स विद्याव्यसनी भूत्वा महतीं वैदुषीं प्रथां सम्पदं च अलभत।
सरलार्थ: – सभी के द्वारा इस प्रकार मना किया गया टूटे दिल वाला होता हुआ वह बालक-‘कैसे इस दुनियाँ में सभी अपने-अपने काम में लगे रहते हैं। कोई भी मेरे तरह फालतू समय नहीं बिताता है। नमस्कार हो इनको जिनके द्वारा मेरी आलस्य में घृणा उत्पन्न हुई। फिर अपने उचित (काम) मैं भी करता हूँ ऐसा विचार करके जल्दी स्कूल गया। तब से लेकर वह पढ़ाई करते हुए महान विद्वता, प्रसिद्धि और सम्पत्ति प्राप्त किया।‘
English Translation: In this way, that boy with a broken heart, forbidden by everyone – ‘How in this world, everyone is engaged in his work. Nobody wastes time as much as I do. Greetings to them, through whom I began to hate laziness. Then, went to school early with the thought “I too do my due diligence”-. Since then he has achieved great scholarship, fame and wealth while studying.’
