English Translation: A jackal and a heron lived in a forest. They were close friends. Once in the morning, the jackal said to the heron – “Friend! You dine with me tomorrow. Heron was happy with the invitation of the jackal.

English Translation: The next day he went to the jackal’s house for food. The jackal of evil nature served rice pudding on a plate for heron and said to the heron, “Friend! On this plate, we both eat together now.

English Translation: While eating, the beak of the heron was not able to take food from the plate. So, the heron kept looking at the kheer (rice pudding) only, the whole kheer ate the jackal.

English Translation: The cheated wretch by the jackal thought – “As I have been treated by him, I will also treat him like that. Thinking that he said to the jackal -” Friend! Will you also have dinner with me tomorrow evening? Jackal was pleased with the invitation of heron.

English Translation: In the evening when the jackal went to heron’s house for the meal, then the heron put the kheer (rice pudding) in the thin-faced pitcher (a utensil) and said to the jackal- “Friend! We both eat together in this pitcher. Heron ate rice pudding from the pitcher with his beak. But the jackal’s mouth did not enter into the pitcher.

English Translation: For this reason, the heron ate all the pudding and the jackal kept watching only with envy. As the jackal behaved towards the heron, the heron also took revenge by behaving the same against the jackal.

English Translation: The misbehavior caused by oneself is painful. For this reason, a person who wants happiness should also treat others well.
