आलस्यं हि मनुष्याणां शरीरस्थो महान् रिपुः ।
नास्त्युद्यमसमो बन्धुः कृत्वा यं नावसीदति ।।1।।

अन्वय: – हि मनुष्याणां शरीरस्थो महान् रिपुः आलस्यं (अस्ति)। उद्यम समो बन्धुः न अस्ति, यं कृत्वा न अवसीदति।

Hindi Translation –निश्चित रूप से मनुष्य के शरीर में उपस्थित सबसे बड़ा शत्रु (दुश्मन) आलस्य (सुस्ती) है। परिश्रम (मेहनत) के समान (दूसरा कोई) दोस्त/मित्र नहीं है जिसे करके (कोई भी मनुष्य) दुखी नहीं होता है।

English Translation – Surely, the greatest enemy present in the human body is laziness. There is no other friend like hard work, and it is the only way to ensure that no one is unhappy.

श्व: कार्यमद्य कुर्वीत पूर्वाह्ने चापराह्णिकम् ।
नहि प्रतीक्षते मृत्युः कृतमस्य न वा कृतम् ।।2।।

अन्वय: – श्वः कार्यम् अद्य कुर्वीत, आपराह्णिकम् च पूर्वाह्ने (कुर्वीत)। मृत्युः न हि प्रतीक्षते। अस्य कृतं न वा कृतम् ।।

Hindi Translation – आने वाले कल का कार्य आज करना चाहिए तथा दोपहर का कार्य सुबह में करना चाहिए। मृत्यु निश्चित रुप से प्रतीक्षा नहीं करती है चाहे इसका कार्य किया गया है या नहीं।

English Translation – The work for tomorrow should be completed today, and the work for the afternoon should be completed in the morning. Death does not care whether it is acted upon or not.

सत्यं ब्रूयात् प्रियं ब्रूयात् न ब्रूयात् सत्यमप्रियम्।
प्रियं च नानृतं ब्रूयात् एष धर्म: सनातन: ।।3।।

अन्वय: – सत्यं ब्रूयात्। प्रियं ब्रूयात्। अप्रिय सत्यं न ब्रूयात्। प्रियं च अनृतं न ब्रूयात्। एष: धर्म: सनातन:।

Hindi Translation – सत्य बोलना चाहिए , प्रिय (मधुर) बोलना चाहिए । अप्रिय (कठोर) सत्य नहीं बोलना चाहिए। और प्रिय असत्य (भी) नहीं बोलना चाहिए । यह (हीं ) सनातन (सार्वकालिक) धर्म है।

English Translation – Speak the truth, speak sweetly. Hard truth should not be spoken. And even sweet untruths should not be spoken. This is eternal duty.

सर्वदा व्यवहारे स्यात् औदार्यं सत्यता तथा ।
ऋजुता मृदुता चापि कौटिल्यं न कदाचन ।।4।।

अन्वय: – व्यवहारे सर्वदा औदार्यं सत्यता तथा ऋजुता मृदुता च अपि स्यात् , कदाचन कौटिल्यं न स्यात्।

Hindi Translation – व्यवहार में हमेशा उदारता, सत्यता तथा सरलता और कोमलता भी होना चाहिए। किसी भी समय (व्यवहार में) कुटिलता नहीं होना चाहिए।

English Translation – There should always be generosity, truthfulness, simplicity, and tenderness in behaviour. There should never be any crookedness in behaviour.

श्रेष्ठं जनं गुरुं चापि मातरं पितरं तथा ।
मनसा कर्मणा वाचा सेवेत सततं सदा ।।5।।

अन्वय: – मातरं-पितरं, गुरुं, श्रेष्ठं जनं च सदा मनसा कर्मणा तथा वाचा अपि सततं सेवेत।

Hindi Translation – माता-पिता, गुरु-जन और श्रेष्ठ लोग की हमेशा मन से, कर्म से तथा वाणी से भी निरंतर सेवा करनी चाहिए।

English Translation – One should always serve their parents, teachers, and superiors with their mind, deed, and speech..

मित्रेण कलहं कृत्वा न कदापि सुखी जन: ।
इति ज्ञात्वा प्रयासेन तदेव परिवर्जयेत् ।।6।।

अन्वय: – मत्रेण (सह) कलहं कृत्वा जनः कदापि सुखी न भवति। इति ज्ञात्वा प्रयासेन तदेव परिवर्जयेत्।

Hindi Translation – मित्र के साथ झगड़ा करके, व्यक्ति कभी भी सुखी नहीं होता है। यह जानकर कोशिश के द्वारा उससे (झगड़े से) बचना चाहिए।

English Translation – One is never happy when he or she fights with a friend. Those who are aware of this should make an effort to avoid those squabbles.
